Juliette Sterkens, AuD is a Wisconsin audiologist with 30+ years of experience in the field of audiology and hearing instrument fittings.
Dr. Sterkens has recently retired from her audiology practice and is on an encore career to speak to consumers, hearing and aging care professionals on the use of Hearing Loops on behalf of the Hearing Loss Association of America. She has received the Wisconsin Audiologist of the Year, the American Academy of Audiology Presidential Award and the Humanitarian of the Year Award from Arizona School of Health Sciences for her work on a local, state and national level.
Why: This special educational program will address incidence of hearing loss, the impact of hearing loss in older adults and how hearing loss contributes to cognitive and physical functional decline, social isolation and overall well-being, the benefits as well as limitations of hearing aids and how public accommodations through hearing loop technology can offer people with hearing loss seamless and barrier free access that meets the ADA regulations (Americans with Disabilities Act) and proposed ICC ANSI a117.1 code. The program for each time will be temporarily looped for hearing aid and CI users in attendance and demonstration listening devices will be available for attendees.
Who Should Attend: Aging service providers/professionals, church pastors and administrators, hearing health professionals, healthcare providers, event/performance/meeting room managers, Sertoma members, Attorneys, DHEC and Architects plus others desiring to learn more about hearing loss and hearing loop systems.
